What happens if a folding prop sheds a blade By Pat Ockenden
< Back < Back
This   happened   last   Saturday   about   200ft   up,      after   opening   the   throttle   on   my   electric ASW   28   to   regain   height,   I   suddenly   saw   something   hanging   down   from   the   glider, managed to glide down and land ok. Found   that   one   of   the   folding   prop   blades   had   sheared   off   causing   severe   vibration,   this broke   the   front   half   of   the   Elepor   nose   so   that   the   whole   nose   was   hanging   on   the   motor cables/speed   controller   and   battery   Deans   connector   which   fortunately   held   and   gave power   to   still   fly   and   land   without   further   damage.   Amazingly   it   was   still   flyable   even with the pendulum effect of all that hanging down. The   nose   has   now   been   glued   back   on,   new   prop   fitted   and      awaiting   a   test   flight. Suggest these are put in the  Feature Articles page with the text above.
