The first programme in the BBC's recent television series “Watch brick by brick; Rebuilding the past” series was about the restoration of the Grahame-White watch office, at RAF Hendon. The documentary explored the dismantling of the building, brick by brick from its original site, relocation to the museum's site and its restoration back to its former glory. The documentary showed how this vast and complex jigsaw puzzle was pieced back together. Also the programme, investigated the building's history and detailed the life of Claude Grahame-White. After watching the programme decided to visit the RAF museum, at Grahame park way, London NW95LL.The museum to well worth a visit, you need to allow at least four hours to see all the exhibits on display. There is a good restaurant on the site for hot and gold food. Opening times are on museum's web site. Entrance is free, but there is a car park change.

New years fun day Ali NewmanNew Year’s fun in was held on Tuesday day 2nd January 2012 at the Concord flying site. Concord invited Bickley MFC to the event. Paul and Brian run their Barbeque on the day. The event consisted of dropping a Clementine on to a marker on the patch, and the distance from the marker to where the Clementine landed was measured. The Clementine is dropped from a cup fitted to the top of the model or from custom built servo operated dropping unit which were made by two keen competitors. These custom units were fitted to the underside of the model aircraft.Results1st Gary Rand 4 metres 41 cm2nd Daniel Dos Santos 9 metres3rd Steve Killgallon 12 paces4th Bob Ryan 14 paces5th Peter Beaumont 22 paces6th Neil Bradshaw 24 paces7th Steve Brett 26 paces8th Paul Monshall 38 paces9th Brian Horsfall Edge of PatchDave Harrison10th Andy Seingier , Ian Cambell , Alex StanleyMartin Piper, Bill Wheeler, Jon Young, Geof Howes,Ali Newman, Sam Bradley, plus all the others we did not write down. The day started with an early morning trip to Morrison’s supermarket for the Clementines and plastic cups. Morrison’s breakfast was tempting, but needed to get to the field to organise the competition. Arrived at the field 10.30am to find my fellow organiser Neil Bradshaw already there . Neil had offered his Avicraft Prangster as the buddy box aircraft which we equipped with a mode 1 and a mode 2 transmitter. A bit of testing showed that the Clementine tended to stick in the cups, unless they were broken open to allow the juice to escape and ease their exit. The barbeque men arrived just after 12noon, and plenty of people arrived to eat and fly. The Bickley club lads were the first to have a go at the competition but suffered with accuracy. Gary Rand was the first Concord competitor and he put the Prangster through some wild contortions and with sheer skill the Clementine left the cup and landed just over the four metres from the marker. From this point on plenty of pilots had a go, but no one could get as close to the marker as Gary, even the pilots with servo operated release units. Some pilots having missed the patch on their first attempt, were offered extra attempts. The last to fly was Steve Killgallon, who won last year’s New Day event with his flying bird which was not equipped with ailerons. But as it was windy this year Steve used his electric Wot4 equipped with a servo operated release. We all watched his attempt, but all to no avail, it was not as close as his first attempt. The prize a magnum of Champaign donated by Mick Abrahams, which was won by Gary Rand. I would like to thank every body who attended, helped or competed on the day, it was a good start to 2012. Ali
